Hi

This has been mentioned in various places, but I thought I'd stick it here as an official 'suggestion'.

I believe it would be extremely useful if there was a live plog - by which I mean a screen which at a glance shows you the ETA (and maybe distance) to all your waypoints.

Twice last weekend I was asked to report an ETA at a particular point, and both times, because that wasn't the next waypoint, there was no easy way of doing this.

Cheers,

Steve

Totally agree as essential. Full, live auto-updateable plan in a scrollable table.

I would like this too. With the live plog, it would be nice to see planned times & actuals.

Since you can scroll through each leg in SD mobile while flying and see the time and distance to each waypoint and since you can download the track and compare with PLOG afterwards, I am at a bit of a loss as to what REAL functionality re navigation in the cockpit this would really add.

Yes it might be interesting but for my money there are other development priorities for Tim and his team (faster maps, no out of memory crashes, export routes to PNDs, Garmins etc from SkyDemonWeb  .. to name a few).

How do you do this? If you can do this, then my 'problem' doesn't exist, and therefore my feature request is not needed. But I've just fired it up again and I can't see any way of finding an ETA to a waypoint other than the next one or the destination.

Being able to download the track afterwards is irrelevant if you've got an ATC unit asking you for an ETA to a particular waypoint... I though I'd already given a pretty good explanation as to why I think it would be useful...

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one then:-

Faster maps: it's plenty fast enough on my device

Crashes: mine has never crashed once

Export to PND from Web: going to be very difficult if not impossible without some kind of additional software as for quite obvious reasons, software running in the browser cannot (indeed should not) access your local filesystem.

SkyDemonWeb, as great as it is, isn't the product I committed to and paid for. I'd argue the opposite - which is that SkyDemonWeb shouldn't slow down the continuing development of the mobile and desktop version.

I'm not saying that either of us is right or wrong, just that different people have different expectations and needs and that there's no point posting on the suggestions thread stating that you think your requirements are more important than someone else's. That's up to the SkyDemon team to decide.

A live auto updatable Plog (ala Garmin) would be very useful. Indeed anything that revises and auto-updates our : ETAs, leg Tracks, leg distances, fuel requirements, and even sunrise and sunset times throughout the flight would be most welcome in the cockpit as it frees the (usually single) pilot operator to focus on other tasks.

Putting it simply, If we consider a complete flight plan as an essential requirement for a flight (PinkLeader and I discussed this briefly in person {in somewhat a humorous way} a few days ago when I was in the UK), then surely a flight plan that updates itself automatically throughout the flight would be useful. It becomes more so when flying in a relatively busy airspace or when flying across multiple waypoints. London information and radars frequently ask for ETAs or to report at a given distance from a certain waypoint along that track. That given way point would not necessarily be the "Next Waypoint". Hence the value of an auto updatable, fully scrollable table of a flight plan. The same becomes even more important in IMC. I recognise that SD is not meant for IMC conditions, but so are all the portable Garmin devises. Yet they did have this feature in all models ever since Pilot III was brought out some 13 years ago.

Incidentally, I for one, am very impressed with SDs display of the interpolated DME to the runway threshold on the instrument screen, which shows a job really well done.

Realistically, we all do different types of flying which explains our differing needs and expectations from SD. Of course all this discussion shows how passionate we all are about SD.

  1. ETAs at various waypoints  .. I am pretty sure this is possible. However, its not available on the PC simulator of a flight and its not available on mobile when stationary. BUT, I think that when you are moving then you can tap on the waypoint text at the top of the screen and it scrolls to the next waypoint  .. which then shows the ETA for that waypoint. This certainly used to be true but, in line with my comments, I hardly ever use it, so I'm not sure.
  2. Download PLOG vs actual. This was in response to someone else who said it would be nice to compare actual times etc with the theoretical PLOG. Your point, Steve, related to the above.
  3. Personal priorities  .. agree completely that we all have a slightly different perspective. I just think its reasonable to display these so that Tim & Co can then weigh things up.

Most of all I think its important to keep the forum as dynamic and open as possible tempered with constructive criticism/suggestion as & when one sees fit.

I will give the waypoint scrolling thing a test tomorrow in the car.

David

Absolutely, PinkLeader. I totally agree with you. I do feel that in destination flying, it would be nice to have an active flight plan table that updates itself automatically, even if the tapping bit is possible. This gives users the opportunity to pick an information display method that suites them most. I The interesting and important thing is that the whole information needed to create this auto-updating-active-flight-plan is already within SD.

Mind you I never stop being impressed by the ingenuity of SD-DME to the runway threshold. I personally think it is an important milestone that Tim and the SD Team need to be congratulated on, over and over again.

Please keep us posted with the outcome of your car test, today.

In addition to Stevelup's live, in-flight-auto-updating flight plan (ETA'a ...etc) in this official thread, can I take the liberty and mention also Bathman's request for a more stable Virtual ILS needles on the instrument panel, and indeed thank Stevelup for his ongoing work to provide us with a larger keyboard.

Tried a car test of the "scroll" to next waypoint by tapping on the waypoint text at top of screen. I could not get it to work. I am sure it used to work. Could also be that I am not doing it right.

Perhaps Tim/Rob could enlighten us.
